Speaking the truth in love

In seminary, my dear friend Alisa shared her checklist for loving speech: Is what I am about to say true? Is it helpful? Is it kind? Too often, what I say *almost* fulfills one of those three standards – too seldom does it fulfill all three. In the new year, I am going to try to do a better job of speaking thoughtfully – of pausing before I speak to ask if I am being truthful, helpful, and kind. Lord, help my words to witness rightly to your Word. Amen.

  1. ❤ Speaking the truth in Love. That is my goal too… easier said than done huh? But the hope is always in the trying. 🙂 On the first Sunday of this year 2012, this verse in Ephesians 4:15-16 stood out to me "…SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE, we will in all things GROW UP into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, GROWS and BUILDS ITSELF UP IN LOVE, as each part does its work." (caps emphasis my own–as these words were speaking to me). Happy New Year! Love, Mish.

  2. Thanks so much for the comment! That is so true – the hope is in the trying. And, too, in knowing that we are loved when we miss the mark. It is that love that inspires me to get up, dust off my knees, and try all over again. Grace and Peace!
